About Us

Services

  • We process and respond to requests submitted under the Access to Information Act and/or the Privacy Act. Our primary concern is to ensure that rights under these two Acts are respected and, as such, we ensure that the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada is compliant with the provisions set out in the legislation.
  • We provide assistance to ensure that individuals making requests know how to obtain access to records that are held by Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada, and we explain how the Office implements the two acts.
  • We provide advice concerning the type of information held under the control of the Office and regarding which records are accessible.
  • For purposes of transparency, pursuant to the Lobbying Act and the Lobbyists Registration Regulations, the on-line Registry of Lobbyists publishes information on the lobbying activities of individuals who communicate with public office holders. All registration records held by the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying (OCL) have been available on-line since 1996. These records are held under Personal Information Bank Number: OCL PPU 039. This published information is considered excluded and is not subject to the Access to Information Act.
  • Prior to 1996, lobbyists' registration records were printed on paper and are held in the OCL's archives, on the 10th Floor at 255 Albert Street, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. These records may be viewed by the public by appointment during business hours, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern standard time. Upon request, photocopies may be provided free of charge, depending on the volume of the records requested. This information, although it is not available on-line, is considered published material which is excluded and is not subject to the Access to Information Act.
  • We provide advice concerning the right of complaint to the Information Commissioner and/or the Privacy Commissioner.
  • At the end of each fiscal year, we prepare and table an annual report to Parliament on the administration of the two acts.
